MOVE was a group I found out about on May 13th, 1985, the day Mayor Goode of Philadelphia dropped two "percussion" devices that killed 11 people and burned 65 homes.
I was a living down by South Street at the time. Me and a couple of friends made the journey up toward the Cobbs Creek area, walking toward the black smoke rising from Osage Avenue. We wanted to talk to folks there, we were punk rock, and we wanted to hear and see the truth.
There's so much to unpack this long after it happened. After reading the Wikipedia article about them, I realized I was so misinformed, and it's only now the real gravity of what happened that day is really hitting me. I need to think about this and put something bigger together for it.
